Understanding Project Types
When you create a project, you select a Type (Construction, Data Center, Industrial, Commercial, or Other). This choice impacts how GlidePath recommends Schedule Intelligence patterns to accelerate your planning.Feature Spec Reference
Module 1.1 — Create New ProjectModule 11.0 — Schedule Intelligence
Project Type Overview
Construction
- Best for: Building, renovation, site work, civil construction
- Schedule Intelligence Patterns: Task sequences for foundation, framing, mechanical, electrical, finishes
- Common Activities: Excavation, formwork, concrete pour, steel erection, MEP rough-in, drywall, painting, final inspection
- Sample Duration: 6–24 months depending on project scope
Data Center
- Best for: Server facility buildout, infrastructure expansion, network deployment
- Schedule Intelligence Patterns: Task sequences for rack deployment, cable management, power distribution, cooling system installation
- Common Activities: Equipment procurement, site prep, power/cooling setup, network infrastructure, testing and commissioning
- Sample Duration: 3–12 months depending on facility size
Industrial
- Best for: Manufacturing, plant expansion, equipment installation
- Schedule Intelligence Patterns: Task sequences for equipment setup, commissioning, process validation, safety testing
- Common Activities: Equipment installation, piping, electrical, control system commissioning, performance testing
- Sample Duration: 4–18 months
Commercial
- Best for: Office tenant fit-out, retail buildout, hospitality renovation
- Schedule Intelligence Patterns: Task sequences for core & shell handover, tenant buildout, FF&E installation
- Common Activities: Demolition, MEP systems, drywall, flooring, finishes, inspections, move-in
- Sample Duration: 3–12 months
Other
- Best for: Projects that don’t fit the above categories (general-purpose scheduling)
- Schedule Intelligence Patterns: Basic task templates
- Use when: You want full flexibility without pre-loaded pattern recommendations
How Schedule Intelligence Works
When you select a project type at creation, GlidePath offers to load a recommended task pattern tailored to that industry. This pattern includes:- A typical WBS structure for that project type
- Common activities in logical sequence
- Suggested dependencies between tasks
- Baseline duration estimates (which you customize for your project)
- Accept the pattern and customize it
- Start from scratch with no pattern
- Modify or delete any recommended tasks after creation
Changing Project Type After Creation
You can change the project type in Project Settings (Module 1.6) at any time. However, this does not retroactively load patterns—it only updates the metadata.Next Steps
- Navigate the Interface — See all the views available
- Create Your First Task — Start building your schedule
- Organizing Tasks with WBS — Structure your work logically
Tip: Choose the project type that best matches your industry. You can always refine the pattern after creation.
